the power of resonance

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I was thinking deeply last week about some matters that are important to me. I’m sure the location of this thinking session is not big mystery, given my particular affinities. Originally this post was going to be title ‘the power of place,’ but after some reflection I’ve figured out that there’s more to it than just location. It’s a matter of who we are and where we’re at in our lives. (more…)

the power of stillness

Last week was the first edition of this year’s Rhythms and Blooms, an event held at the local botanic gardens during the evening after work, when they are normally closed. Last week was a long one for me, due to being so busy both at work and personally. Most people have a place where they slow down and relax, step back and get perspective on things. For me, that happens to be the local botanic gardens, and I love being there at night, because I get different photos than I do during the day. (more…)

beyond desire

I mentioned in my previous post an interesting discovery I’d made about myself. I described it to a friend of mine this way: as soon as I figure out that I want something, I stop doing anything or don’t start doing what I need to do in order to manifest it. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of days, and have come up with some thoughts about why this might be, and what to do about it.

We talked about a lot of things, and one of them was the Hawaiian perspective of the spiritual world, which is remarkably similar to many pagans (or maybe more accurately, ours is similar to theirs). It seems that Huna has guardian angels as well, though the word is obviously different. I’ve been thinking about these magnificent beings lately. My thoughts on the subject are not clear yet, so if you’re reading, this may be a bit confused as I try to write my way to some clarity.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/12/angels-and-the-light/#more-329">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/martial-arts/" title="View all posts in martial arts" rel="category tag">martial arts</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/pagan-subjects/" title="View all posts in pagan subjects" rel="category tag">pagan subjects</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/12/angels-and-the-light/#respond" title="Comment on angels and the light">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-328"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/10/the-mat-is-everywhere/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to the mat is everywhere">the mat is everywhere</a></h3> <small>Tuesday, November 10th, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p>Fr<title /><meta content="OpenOffice.org 2.4 (Linux)" name="GENERATOR" /><style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } </style>om Thursday November 5th through November 8th, I had the privilege of once again attending the martial arts clinic put on by our school. As usual, it was a fantastic experience – I always learn a lot, get to meet new people, and see old friends. I wrote in a blog entry before the clinic that I thought something big was going to happen at the clinic that would change things, and I wasn’t disappointed. I learned a lot of new things, that if I put them into practice, will irrevocably change me, and by extension, my life. But the things that is likely to have the most impact in the short term was not said by a teacher, but by a fellow student.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/10/the-mat-is-everywhere/#more-328">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/martial-arts/" title="View all posts in martial arts" rel="category tag">martial arts</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/10/the-mat-is-everywhere/#respond" title="Comment on the mat is everywhere">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-322"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/28/writing-my-future/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to writing my future">writing my future</a></h3> <small>Wednesday, October 28th, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p>I have a tendency, or at least a desire, to write. That’s rather obvious, or you wouldn’t be reading this blog. Though I couldn’t stand it when I was younger, writing is an activity I’ve come to enjoy – to the point where I think it would be fun to write for a living. Yes, I know it’s a lot of work, but hey, if I have to work at something, better to work at something I enjoy doing, you know? Not that I don’t enjoy writing software, but let’s face it – it’s not exactly the thing I’d rather do more than anything in the world. If it were, you wouldn’t be reading this because I’d be sitting in my cube learning something new at lunch instead of writing this entry. I like writing software, but hey it’s a job like any other. I do it 8 hours a day then I go home and do what I really like – which isn’t writing software.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/28/writing-my-future/#more-322">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/writing/" title="View all posts in writing" rel="category tag">writing</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/28/writing-my-future/#respond" title="Comment on writing my future">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-321"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/26/states-of-being/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to states of being">states of being</a></h3> <small>Monday, October 26th, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p><meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="CONTENT-TYPE" /> <title /> <meta content="OpenOffice.org 2.4 (Linux)" name="GENERATOR" /> <style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style>It is mid-October, 2009, and I am 5 ½ years into my training in DanZan Ryu Jujitsu. Earlier this year, I had planned on testing for black belt at the clinic our dojo puts on in November, but I started my preparations too late in the year and would not have been ready, though I would have been close. I have learned and experienced a lot of things on my journey so far, and some have challenged the world view in my mind. Having reached ‘middle age’, I find that my concept of the world and it’s functioning is sometimes wrong and less flexible than I’d like it to be. Oddly enough, two of the areas where I think my thoughts should be closest are areas where they are the farthest apart. This tells me that I don’t understand either thing as well as I think I do. These two things are martial arts and the Law of Attraction.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/26/states-of-being/#more-321">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/martial-arts/" title="View all posts in martial arts" rel="category tag">martial arts</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/26/states-of-being/#respond" title="Comment on states of being">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="navigation"> <div class="alignleft"></div> <div class="alignright"></div> </div> </div> <div id="sidebar"> <ul> <li> <form method="get" id="searchform" action="http://www.phagos.org/"> <div><input type="text" value="" name="s" id="s" /> <input type="submit" id="searchsubmit" value="Search" /> </div> </form> </li> <!-- Author information is disabled per default.
