all things are one thing

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Let me start by apologizing for the time since my last post. I’ve been concentrating more on my jujitsu notebook and trying to get over a sinus infection, which has left little energy or desire to write. Now, on with the post. Lately I’ve been getting some messages from the universe, on a regular basis and some of them are becoming increasingly insistent. Perhaps the most pressing of these is that the universe is asking me to choose the main direction my life will take for some time to come. (more…)

breaking with tradition

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

ok, so here we are in the third day of the new year, and I have already broken my first tradition. Many people make a New Year’s resolution, which they fail to achieve and frequently stop working towards between the 2nd and 6th week of the new year.  If it makes it that long.  I haven’t made a new year’s resolution in quite sometime, and typically don’t.  But this year, I decided it would be a good idea. I only made one, and I don’t expect it to be difficult to keep.

My lone resolution is this: this year I’m going to do more things that make me happy.  That’s it.  That’s all.  But I’m not going to doing it in a selfish manner - I’m not talking about hoarding, or give me this, give me that kind of behavior.  I’m thinking more along the lines of spending more Sundays at Riverbanks, working in and on my garden, doing some more writing, hanging out with friends more, that kind of thing.  Investing more time in the people, things, and experiences I enjoy.

So there it is - my  first tradition broken.  This is going to be a year of many broken traditions - and many new ones. Can’t wait to see what happens!

2010 - the year of change

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Here I sit, on the first morning of the new year, sipping a mimosa and writing. Over the last few days, I’ve experienced a growing sense that something big is coming my way, something good, but something big. I don’t know what it is, or when it will get here, but I feel like it isn’t far off. Of course, on one hand, I could be completely wrong, and on the other hand, it might already be here. Yes, 2010 might actually be the big thing around the corner.

As usual, it was a fantastic experience – I always learn a lot, get to meet new people, and see old friends. I wrote in a blog entry before the clinic that I thought something big was going to happen at the clinic that would change things, and I wasn’t disappointed. I learned a lot of new things, that if I put them into practice, will irrevocably change me, and by extension, my life. But the things that is likely to have the most impact in the short term was not said by a teacher, but by a fellow student.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/10/the-mat-is-everywhere/#more-328">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/martial-arts/" title="View all posts in martial arts" rel="category tag">martial arts</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/10/the-mat-is-everywhere/#respond" title="Comment on the mat is everywhere">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-326"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/02/planned-obsolescence/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to planned obsolescence">planned obsolescence</a></h3> <small>Monday, November 2nd, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p>My dehydrator quit early last week. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4 years old. This seems to be the year of everything falling apart. My heat pump has developed a problem as well, and someone is coming to look at it Monday. It’s an outdoor unit, since it won’t fit in the crawlspace under the house. At almost 10 years old, the unit is rapidly approaching the end of its working days. I have to admit that over the last few years, the whole idea of maintenance of things has been on my mind more often, and with all the things occurring the last few months, I find myself thinking about planning for the replacement of things that are going to break, Having reached the point some time ago that I have sufficient means to handle recurring day to day living expenses, I find that it’s time to start planning for the recurring but infrequent and larger expenses that life imposes on us. In other words, it’s time to start thinking about what happens when something needs replaced.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/02/planned-obsolescence/#more-326">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/11/02/planned-obsolescence/#respond" title="Comment on planned obsolescence">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-323"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/29/at-the-crossroads/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to at the crossroads">at the crossroads</a></h3> <small>Thursday, October 29th, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p><meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="CONTENT-TYPE" /> <title /> <meta content="OpenOffice.org 2.4 (Linux)" name="GENERATOR" /> <style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style>I’ve had a feeling on and off over the last couple years that a time for decision and action is fast approaching, at least with regards to my career. That’s rather obvious, or you wouldn’t be reading this blog. Though I couldn’t stand it when I was younger, writing is an activity I’ve come to enjoy – to the point where I think it would be fun to write for a living. Yes, I know it’s a lot of work, but hey, if I have to work at something, better to work at something I enjoy doing, you know? Not that I don’t enjoy writing software, but let’s face it – it’s not exactly the thing I’d rather do more than anything in the world. If it were, you wouldn’t be reading this because I’d be sitting in my cube learning something new at lunch instead of writing this entry. I like writing software, but hey it’s a job like any other. I do it 8 hours a day then I go home and do what I really like – which isn’t writing software.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/28/writing-my-future/#more-322">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/writing/" title="View all posts in writing" rel="category tag">writing</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/law-of-attraction/" title="View all posts in law of attraction" rel="category tag">law of attraction</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/28/writing-my-future/#respond" title="Comment on writing my future">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="post"> <h3 id="post-319"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/22/the-happiness-experiment-day-two/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to the happiness experiment, day two">the happiness experiment, day two</a></h3> <small>Thursday, October 22nd, 2009</small> <div class="entry"> <p><meta name="GENERATOR" content="OpenOffice.org 2.4 (Linux)" /> <style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style>I prefer my blog entries to be standalone entries – write my thoughts out into a few brief paragraphs and let them go, rather than carrying them over a several day period. Monday morning I had the even more enjoyable experience of having my zipper break at work, and a trip to the mall to get some pants so I wouldn’t be exposed to the world. These two events are fairly common events in the world we live in – things change. Tires wear out, alignments get skewed, clothes wear out – things age and wear out, most possessions do. Change is constant in the world around us. Many people, myself included, pay so much attention to other things around them that they don’t see the changes going on until they become big enough to force themselves into our consciousness. Others spend a lot of time pretending it isn’t so, or deluding themselves into not seeing the changes that are happening around them. Many people fear change – but it doesn’t need to be that way.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/20/nature-of-change/#more-316">(more…)</a> </p> </div> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/life/" title="View all posts in life" rel="category tag">life</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/" title="View all posts in change" rel="category tag">change</a>, <a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/metaphysics/" title="View all posts in metaphysics" rel="category tag">metaphysics</a> | <a href="http://www.phagos.org/2009/10/20/nature-of-change/#respond" title="Comment on nature of change">No Comments »</a></p> </div> <div class="navigation"> <div class="alignleft"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/page/4/">« Previous Entries</a></div> <div class="alignright"><a href="http://www.phagos.org/category/change/page/2/">Next Entries »</a></div> </div> </div> <div id="sidebar"> <ul> <li> <form method="get" id="searchform" action="http://www.phagos.org/"> <div><input type="text" value="" name="s" id="s" /> <input type="submit" id="searchsubmit" value="Search" /> </div> </form> </li> <!-- Author information is disabled per default.
