diversion

Last night I did something I haven’t done in quite some time - I went to a SC Philharmonic concert.  I don’t listen to classical music much, though I do enjoy from time to time.  Last night was a bit different than usual for the orchestra as well.

The first concert of every year they do something a little different, where they bring in ballroom dancers to waltz while they play, at least for a couple of numbers.  This year, due to the popularity of Dancing with the Stars, they added some other dances in as well - the tango, swing, and salsa.  I have to say, that’s the most polite salsa dancing I’ve ever sen in my life.

At the risk of sounding overcritical, the music was ok, but nothing to write home about.  I’ve never heard Santana’s Oye Como Va in symphonic form, and I really would have been okay had I never heard YMCA done by a symphony either.  The highlight for me was definitely the dancing - especially the tango.  The waltz was ok, and so was the rest, but I appreciate the degree of difficulty in the tango performance.

Nothing earth shattering to write about this time, just an enjoyable night at a concert - even if I was the only one in jeans and a t-shirt.
