miscellaneous updates
Well, there’s been quite a bit happening the last few days - I thought rather than write a post on each particular thing, I’d just hit the highlights, or lowlights, as appropriate.
Got an email from someone I met in ballroom dancing class, wondering if was going to the dance this past Saturday night. The first thought I had was, wonder how many times she’ll write before she realizes I’m not going to any more of them… Surprised me a bit, because I’m not sure I’ve consciously decided that yet, though it’s unlikely I’ll go dancing until after the clinic in the middle of next month.
I went to jujitsu class Friday night, worked my legs real hard in the workout - was sore all weekend, which wasn’t good, since this weekend was massage class. Did the worst massage I’ve done in months on Saturday - was extremely tired, sore, didn’t want to work on anyone, and really just wanted to stay home. Was even more sore on Sunday morning, despite getting worked over Saturday, wound up taking a pain reliever before class. Fortunately there was no hands on work Sunday, I was prepared to bow out of class for a bit if needed to avoid it.
Took today off from work - Columbus Day is not an observed holiday at our company, we get the day after Thanksgiving instead. I needed the time to myself - though I tend to withdraw from people around this time of year anyway, I feel it more keenly this year than in previous years, though I don’t know why.
The Parkour meetup group I organized now has 3 members, though we haven’t decided on a meetup yet. I need to email them tomorrow and try to get something arranged. It’s quite likely that parkour will replace any dancing activities I might have done - parkour doesn’t require a partner.
I reserved my spot in this year’s fall clinic yesterday, the martial arts seminar our dojo hosts. It’s looking absolutely awesome - I can’t wait to get past this alone time and into the clinic, it’s going to be absolutely dynamite. I’m starting off with a special 2 day class that has limited openings in the clinic - more about that later.
Thought I’d inspire myself for the parkour and finally bought Casino Royale today, the one from 2006, not the original from the 60’s. Sebastien Foucan, the founder of freerunning and co-founder of parkour has a freerunning sequence at the beginning of the movie just after the credits. I’m not going to do anything so crazy, but it is inspiring.
Today was bird day at the gardens - I saw a ton of them. Cardinals, blue jays, a female painted bunting, various other birds I can’t identify, and even - not one, but two hawks, circling overhead, looking for food. I couldn’t figure out why there were so many people there today, then I remembered as I left - Columbus Day, kids were out of school.
Despite getting a huge load of dishes done, food prep never got done. There isn’t a lot to do, but enough that if I don’t do it in the morning, I’ll be buying lunch tomorrow. for breakfast I just need to make sure the frozen fruit is thawed out so I can mix it with the fresh.
The beer I made to celebrate my promotion to 2nd degree brown isn’t developing a head very quickly - in fact, it’s not got much of one at all. I’ll probably chill some and take it to class Wednesday, I’m tired of waiting. Besides, there are other beers to make. Like the one I’m going to pop open when I get my black belt next year.
Alright, time to go to bed.
