Mabon

For anyone who doesn’t know, yesterday was Mabon, a Wiccan holiday that most people in the northern hemisphere know as the autumnal equinox.  Mabon is a harvest holiday, a celebration of the bounty of the fields.  It’s a time to acknowledge the things we’re harvesting in our lives for the year.  Except this year was a little different for me.

I wasn’t feeling well last night, so I didn’t do my Mabon ritual until tonight.  I did something I don’t do very often either - I didn’t write my ritual out beforehand, I just went with the flow, for a couple reasons.  One, I didn’t want to spend all that time writing it out.  Second, it just seemed like the right thing to do it spontaneously.  My intuition really seems to be on tonight, and it said just do it, so I listened and just did it.

Tonight’s ritual for me really resembled another holiday everyone in America knows - Thanksgiving.  I’ve always loved Thanksgiving, for reasons I’ll tell you at another time.  After I I got my circle cast and the elements and God and Goddess called, I just decided my magickal work tonight would be to charge up some frankincense with the energy of thankfulness and then send it off by putting it on the lit charcoal.  It felt great!  I sat down on the floor and just started thinking about all the things I’m thankful for that have happened this year, how lucky I am to be where I am, when I am, doing what I’m doing.  In short, I just did a ritual to let the universe know how much I appreciate what it’s done for me.

I gotta tell you, the attitude of gratitude will give you a quick positive attitude adjustment.  Though I’m tired, I also feel really good, because I’m still thinking about all the things for which I’m grateful.  I’m going to try consciously practicing gratitude more often - it’s a pretty good pick me up.  I’m still tired physically, but emotionally, I feel a lot better.

So with that in mind, let me say thank you to you, the reader, for reading my blog.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.  See you next time.

Giving thanks is certainly an uplifting experience, just contemplating the seasons and what you have is enough to make me really happy. I had a Mabon feast with my family - my husband, sister, step-dad and my 2 kids. We had seasonal foods including Lemon Roasted Potatoes, Butternut Squash and Seed Dumplings, Stir-Fry Greens, Mushroom and Walnut Pate, Fresh Bread Rolls, Grapes and Apple Cinnamon Muffins. The kids decorated the table with green cloth and orange and gold candles, we had a great time. I love being able to give them the experience of such a positive tradition.
