shopping habits
Like many other millions of people, every week I go to Walmart to buy various things. The last couple months though, I’ve been re-thinking that decision. The reasons behind it might be a bit surprising, but they make a lot of sense to me.
The big reason can be summed up in one word: quality. Maybe I’ve just started noticing it, or maybe it really is a trend, but the quality of the merchandise stocked in the store seems to be going down over the last few months. I think it’s always been that way and I’m just now figuring it out. It started a couple of months ago when I started having problems with a lawn mower I bought from there in April. It turns out the mower wasn’t necessarily at fault, but the construction of the mower is not that great. It’ll last me this year, and maybe part of next year, or even longer, but I’ll probably replace it next year with something better.
I also shop a lot in the produce section, as I am an aspiring raw/living foodist, as you know from some of my other blogs, and the produce quality and selection has definitely taken a nosedive over the last 6 - 12 months. I’m about ready to start driving to the farmer’s market, which is likely cheaper, but also much farther away.
It’s got me thinking about things. I’m working on being prosperous and the law of attraction and all, and it’s making me ask the question - why am I surrounding myself with second rate merchandise? It doesn’t make me feel prosperous, it just makes me feel cheap. So I’ve decided that when it comes to certain things, I’m not buying them from Walmart any more. I’m going to save the money I’d use to buy the cheap version and wait a bit longer and accumulate more money for it. Then I’ll get the more expensive and better quality version of what I want. If it’s worth having, it’s worth having a good quality product.
That’s not to say I won’t be shopping at Walmart ever again, I will. They do carry some better merchandise in selected items that’s less expensive than other stores, but overall, they’ll be getting less of my money.
