27 days revisited

So I started my first batch of habit changes last weekend, with less than spectacular results. By the end of the week, things were back to the status quo, pushed a little bit here and a little bit there by external circumstances. I should say, I allowed myself to be pushed back to them.

How or why is irrelevant for this particular discussion. What is relevant is that I tried to change too much, too fast. I came up with a plan for phasing in/out habits, only to discover during the past week that even that schedule was overly optimistic. As I said in my previous post, many of these are minor changes, but a couple are fairly substantial - even leaving out the two fairly substantial changes, overall these changes add up to a substantial change to the way I currently live. Not necessarily from a time perspective, though there is some reordering of priorities and activities, but because it will bring a change in the way I think and my perspective towards life - a much more positive one.

When all is said and done, change is not easy, not even the small ones - though they may be simple.  But as life demonstrates over and over again, it is often the simplest things that are the hardest.
