dances
Since I just talked about the rhythm of life, I thought it appropriate to keep the discussion going. If life is a rhythm, our lives are dances, expressions of the rhythm.
Watching others, It’s easy for us to see where their dances are out of rhythm, sometimes it’s amusing, sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes seeing it in others makes us see the awkwardness in our own dances, and sometimes we flail around, with no idea that we’re out of sync, like a beginner trying an advanced breakdance move and simply falling on his head instead. Yet as we grow older, our moves begin to flow, we learn to feel the rhythm and move in time with its grace, gradually learning through trial and error until one day it just seems to come together.
There are so many dances we can do. Dances of love and hate, happiness and pathos, dances by ourselves or intricate dances with others. Still others represent the things we do, from the most mundane of tasks such as washing dishes, to high adrenaline sports such as base jumping. So many dances, so many rhythms, a differnet rhythm for each living thing, yet having so many elements in common.
Although I’m not a country music fan, I think the final word on the subject may belong to Lee Ann Womack and her song, I Hope You Dance, a beautiful and poignant tune about living. I won’t put the lyrics in due to possible copyright issues, but you can read the lyrics here.
Until about a month ago, I was content in m world, not stepping outside my well established comfort zone, not wanting to change what I had. But without going into it in depth, I heard something at the clinic that really made me go yeah, it’s time to start doing stuff I don’t normally do, start branching out and see where life leads me. I have two teachers in particular to thank, who I will not mention by name, but they know who they are. Although they don’t even know about this blog, I owe them a lot of thanks. I have said my thanks to them in person, but there are some debts you can never repay, except by living your life the best you know how. I choose to dance.
