simplicity
I went to see Spiderman 3 today, but rather than talking about the movie itself, I want to take a few minutes and talk about what I took away frmo the movie.
Ok, yes the movie was good, just as my friends who’ve already seen it told me. And yes, it was a pretty complex story line, just like the critics are saying. One of the things that struck me most about the movie was the complexity of Peter Parker’s life, and the complexity of the story. I’ve noticed that oftentimes people forget or neglect the things they hold as most important in their lives, for any number of reasons. I am no different than those around me: my life is overly complex and despite trying to put things together, I’ve still managed to make a complete mess and neglected the things that are most important to me.
So, I’ve made the decision to simplify. If something is truly important to me, I know I’ll make time for it in my life. I’m letting go of those things that I tell myself I want but don’t want enough to find the time to bring in or keep. I’m going to take better care of myself, by allowing myself to let unimportant things drift away. I ran across this saying recently: Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. - Lin Yutang. So I’m going to start leaving a lot more stuff undone and focus on what I want to do, and what I need to do to get to where I want to go. It may be hard, and it may take time, but at least it’s simple.
