action

As this may be my last post of the year, Happy New Year!

The idea of action and taking action has been on my mind lately.  Here’s the context that started it all.  My sensei and I were talking some time ago about Reiki.  He said that Reiki was all well and good, but that he’d rather just know how to fix the problem than leave it up to something as nebulous as energy work.  For example, the pain of a dislocated shoulder can be eased using Reiki energy work.  But to actually fix the shoulder, it’s much more valuable to know where to put you hand and how to lever the arm to put the arm back into the socket, which no amount of Reiki is going to do.

With that in mind, I started looking at life lately through that filter.  I’ve lost 20 or so pounds in the last 2 - 3 months, simply by changing the way I eat.  i still exercise lie I used to, everything else is the same, but now I’m consistently losing 2 - 3 pounds a week.  If I had known it was that simple, I would have changed my eating habits a long time ago.  Which brings me back to my point.  I didn’t know what action to take to lose weight, but now that I know, it seems simple.  i’m wondering how I can apply this to the rest of my life.  Are the actions I need to do to bring about certain results really that simple?  Is it just a matter of finding the right action to take?

I think it is.  So today I decided to start testing it out.  Today is as good as any other day to start making changes.  Yes, I’ve been making lots of them already, but now it’s time to take some stuff to the next level.  So, today I wwent out and marked off my garden area and started turning the soil and removing the existing grass.  Since it gets a lot of sun, the grass is rather sparse, but it’s a large area, so it will take some time to get it done.  You  also may have noticed I put Buddhism as a category; I’ll be talking about it more, so it only makes sense to go ahead and put it up there.

So, here it is.  I’m taking action to bring about the things I want.  It may not always be comfortable at first, and I may have t ogrit my teeth at times, but I’ll get there.
