puzzle pieces

Well, the first day of the clinic is over, and all I can say is… wow! Every year I think it couldn’t possibly get any better, and every year it does. This clinic is bit different than the last two I went to, though, because this year I found a couple of new puzzle pieces.

I’ve been unclear until lately about certain aspects of my life, and today I got some clarity about some of it. The first puzzle piece came in the form of a new instructor at the clinic. His specialty is baguazhang, an internal Kung Fu style from Tibet that pre-dates Tibetan Buddhism. His knowledge is incredible! He knows and understands the esoteric meanings behind mudras, was talking about the chakras, energy movement, in a way I can’t even describe. I was so blown away by what he said and showed us I had to sit out the next class to let it all sink in. He has the martial, healing, and spiritual knowledge of his art, I could only hope to have half that someday.

The next piece that fell into place came as the result of negative knowledge, if that makes sense. Another instructor at class was demonstrating Polish special forces techniques. Not pretty, not flowery, but very effective and deadly, as he was showing us knife fighting techniques. At one point today a teacher mentioned as part of his presentation, that we all have our own reasons why we got into martial arts. This class taught me that it definitely wasn’t to learn how to injure or kill, because this class did exactly that. I almost left the mat before the session ended. I know now that the reason I continue to study martial arts is for spiritual reasons. While you might have guessed that from what I’ve written previously, today solidified that knowledge for me. Yes, it’s a great workout, and a great way to stay in shape, but for me, the spirituality of it is what keeps me there.

The last piece that I’m going to talk about for now also came in the form of a new instructor. She does sound healing work, and I suspect it is quite different from the kind of sound energy work I do. It’s the first time I’ve met someone who actually does sound energy work other than myself. Although she had to shorten her presentation because of time constraints, a lot of what she had to say resonated with me, and some of the parts she skipped over in her presentation I thought could be the most interesting. She was gracious enough to let me have the presentation to view, contingent upon keeping the presentation to myself. I’ll be interested to see what my session is like with her tomorrow, I booked a healing session with her tomorrow.

So there you have it, some pieces to the puzzle that is my life. Day 1 of the clinic was awesome - I can’t wait to see what 2, 3, and 4 have in store.
