charleston poetry

Since I haven’t had a chance to write my next post, here’s some untitled poetry I wrote on my trip to Folly Beach in Charleston a couple weeks ago.

Poem 1
I close my eyes
As the wind rushes by.
Tiny raindrops tickle my skin.
Over the din of ocean waves
coming on shore,
the distant cry of gulls.
Inhaling the fragrance of rain and saltwater,
I open my eyes and see the ocean,
stretched across the horizon
and I am humbled.

Haiku 1

Darkened clouds overhead
Raindrops fall nourishing life
Rainbows dance after

Haiku 2

Inspiration found
Like an unpolished jewel
Diamond in the rough

Poem 2

It’s said a picture’s worth a thousand words,
today I have seen volumes.
The ocean vast, the waves’ white froth,
the shore where the tide ebbs and flows.
the wind blows through the trees and shrubs,
as the gulls fly and soar upon it.
The herons glide above the waves,
and soar and dive and float,
and clouds drift by shedding raindrops as they go.
One last thing that I have seen,
no other eye can see,
that as much as I am part of them,
they are part of me.
